Our Heritage

Vassar-Warner, located at 52 South Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, New York, was founded in 1871 to provide a "true home for aged, indigent, women". The residence was named for its major benefactors, the 19th century philanthropists Jonathan Rowland Warner, John Guy Vassar and Matthew Vassar, Jr. Vassar-Warner has continued to operate without interruption for more than 135 years and it is the only non-profit adult home in Dutchess County.

Vassar-Warner has a distinctly non-institutional atmosphere rich in history and charm. This historic Greek Revival building has high ceilings, large window, four large verandas, several fireplaces, and an impressive collection of antique furniture.

Residents are welcome to bring their own treasured furnishings to make their private rooms as unique and comfortable as the building itself.
